# envtrap run

> Reference for the envtrap run command, arguments, and execution flags.

# `envtrap run`

The primary execution command. Spawns and monitors your application as a supervised child process.

```bash theme={null}
envtrap run [options] <command> [args...]
```

## Arguments

| Parameter | Type | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `<command>` | `string` | The target command to execute (e.g. `node`, `npm`, `pnpm`). |
| `[args...]` | `string[]` | Any command-line arguments forwarded directly to the target executable. |

## Command Flags

### `-e, --env-file <path>`

* **Default**: `".env"`
* **Description**: Path to a custom `.env` file to load secrets from (in addition to the active shell `process.env`).

```bash theme={null}
envtrap run --env-file .env.staging node dist/index.js
```

### `-v, --verbose`

* **Default**: `false`
* **Description**: Enables verbose debug logging for the MITM TLS proxy server, certificate minting, and runtime hooks.

```bash theme={null}
envtrap run --verbose node app.js
```

### `--no-mitm`

* **Description**: Disables the in-memory MITM TLS proxy server entirely. Useful for tasks that do not make outbound network requests or when maximum startup speed is needed.

```bash theme={null}
envtrap run --no-mitm node test.js
```

### `--quiet`

* **Default**: `false`
* **Description**: Suppresses the startup banner and real-time per-leak terminal alerts. Grouped summaries and `.envtrap-report.json` are still produced.

```bash theme={null}
envtrap run --quiet node app.js
```

### `--log-file <path>`

* **Default**: `null`
* **Description**: Appends structured JSONL events in real time to the specified file path.

```bash theme={null}
envtrap run --log-file logs/audit.jsonl node app.js
```
