# Configuration Recipes & Templates

Here are pre-configured `envtrap.json` templates designed for different deployment environments.

***

## 1. Production (High Security)

Blocks all unauthorized outbound HTTP/HTTPS traffic, DNS tunneling, and subprocess leaks, while maintaining audit logs for compliance:

```json envtrap.json theme={null}
{
  "channels": {
    "network":       "block",
    "dns":           "block",
    "child_process": "block",
    "stdout":        "warn",
    "stderr":        "warn"
  },
  "exclusions": {
    "domains": [
      "api.stripe.com",
      "api.openai.com",
      "api.github.com",
      "sentry.io"
    ]
  },
  "logFile": "logs/envtrap-production-audit.jsonl"
}
```

***

## 2. Local Development (Permissive)

Permits execution across all channels with full visibility, redacting credentials without interrupting developer workflows:

```json envtrap.json theme={null}
{
  "channels": {
    "network":       "warn",
    "dns":           "warn",
    "child_process": "warn",
    "stdout":        "warn",
    "stderr":        "warn"
  },
  "exclusions": {
    "paths": [
      "test/**",
      "**/__tests__/**",
      "**/*.spec.ts",
      "scripts/seed.ts"
    ]
  }
}
```

***

## 3. Headless CI / Test Runner

Suppresses startup banners and terminal noise while enforcing strict blocking for unit and integration test runs:

```json envtrap.json theme={null}
{
  "channels": {
    "network":       "block",
    "dns":           "block",
    "child_process": "warn",
    "stdout":        "warn",
    "stderr":        "warn"
  },
  "quiet": true,
  "exclusions": {
    "paths": [
      "test/**",
      "**/*.test.js"
    ]
  },
  "logFile": ".envtrap-ci.jsonl"
}
```
